Chaplaincy
The Chaplaincy of the St Mary's Academy, Warrington is under the provision of the Fraternity of Saint Peter, (FSPS). The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) is a clerical Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right, canonically erected by Pope St. John Paul II in 1988. Their priests serve in apostolates across the world, with the faithful celebration of the traditional Mass and Sacraments (Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite) at the centre of their charism. The members of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, nourished through the spiritual riches of the Church’s ancient Roman Liturgy, strive to sanctify the seminarians, religious and faithful entrusted to their pastoral care.
We are living in the embers of a Christian society and as our culture continues to move away from the Christian principles that formed the foundation of Western Civilisation, providing authentic religious education is more essential than ever in order to pass on the faith, comprehend the dignity of the human person, encourage and a life of virtue and an interior life, and equip our students to confidently proclaim the Gospel.
In the Great Commission Our Lord gave the command 'Go therefore, teach ye all nations; baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.' Therefore at the heart of the academy is the work of the Chaplaincy, the sacrifice of the Mass celebrated in the traditional form according to the 1962 Missal.
There is a Latin maxim that sums this up and addresses the centrality of worship in the life, identity and mission of the Catholic Church; "lex orandi, lex credendi, lex vivendi", The phrase in Latin literally means the law of prayer ("the way we worship") is the law of belief ("what we believe") determines the way we live.
